Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie

img_6399

Mom was the pie maker around home so when Frieda suggested a pie fundraiser for our local safe house, I was a little intimidated but we talked about it and decided to go for it. She worked at her parents bakery for many years so her confidence level was quite a bit higher than mine.

A lesson from my child

img_2387

Last night God spoke to me through my child. I woke up to his whispers in the night “Mommy, mommy, I’m wet!” I rolled over and looked at the clock reading 3:21. He had wet his bed and needed a complete changing. After I had him all cleaned up, he asked to snuggle with me in our bed “Just for a little bit” he said. So that’s what we did.

After snuggling for a while I tucked him back into his own bed and as I lay on my own I began to think. I realized that that’s how I come to God. So many times. Needing cleansing. I mess up. I come to Him again, begging for forgiveness…needing help. Needing a washing.

So often Declan wakes up thirsty in the middle of the night and comes asking for water. I know the analogy is not perfect because I am human, getting tired and easily frustrated and God is the total opposite of that. He never grows tired or sleeps. But I think its still such a beautiful thought that just as I get up and give my son water, night after night. So, we come to God. Asking for water. Begging to have our thirst quenched. And He fills us! Time and time again. He fills us. He showers us with His love. We are filled. We are washed. We are cleansed!

That’s what I felt God speaking to me through the life of my child. We love our little ones so much and would do almost anything for them but God loves us so much more!

Have a blessed weekend!

Sourdough Potato Bread

img_6335

This recipe is tried and true and so easy to make! Perfect fresh out of the oven lathered in softened butter (I hate trying to spread cold butter!) and jam. Or great for sandwiches, french toast…its got lots of possibilities.

When I was about 13 one of my friends introduced me to this bread and I loved it. I asked for some sourdough starter with high hopes of becoming a pro but yeah, the vision kind of died after a few weeks and so did my starter.

Here is the revised version of that recipe and I can say that I learned a lot since then!

I love working with dough.

Today I said goodbye to my sweet, talented, funny, beautiful, smart sister and sent her on a plane back home. I hate goodbyes so we kept it short and sweet. I miss her already.

She was here for a few weeks and I think I got spoiled. I need to learn how to be independent again! She’s such a cheerful person and added so much happiness to my life. I tend to take life pretty seriously sometimes and she always brightened even the dreariest day with her laughter and love for life. She loved on my kids and was so patient with them. If she was gone for even a few hours (or sleeping too late!) Declan was sure to ask about her… he benefited from her love for adventure.

I love you Alta! Come visit us again sometime =)

Sourdough Soft Pretzels

img_2192

I’m a little over the top with this whole Sourdough thing but its just way too much fun! Not to mention delicious. I’m working my way through converting my yeast recipes to sourdough and we are loving the results. It’s always fun to have other people try it so I can get a second opinion and perfect my recipes. These Soft Pretzels happened to be made for a ladies coffee get together at my sisters house. Everyone seemed pretty happy with them as they were so I wanted to share it with you! Sourdough Walnut-Pear Waffles

Discovering sourdough was a very good thing. These waffles are some of our favorites! The sweetness of the pears and the crunch of the walnuts with a hint of ginger, topped with maple cream…it doesn’t get much better than this! You’ll want to give these a try.Β  Continue reading “Sourdough Walnut-Pear Waffles”
